Building a Start Up (part 3)

Ok so I am going to be real with you guys, there are times when I feel really discouraged! I mean, how do you even compete with all the other designers out there? There are literally thousands.

It’s so easy to think like that, how am I special? What makes me different? Why is no-one interested in what I have to offer? All these things are very real and it’s easy to fall into that thought process.

I have watched MANY You Tube tutorials, I’ve read a ton of blogs on ‘How To’ and I’ve asked my fellow bloggers and the people in my industry the question of how? How are you different from the next store across the street?

My friend Anna-Belle gave me such good advice, she’s a total legend and she has an incredible lifestyle blog called She Said… She said (see what I did there hehe) that no-one is like you because you are unique to the world. What you have to offer is different to the next person because of what makes you who you are.

That really stuck with me because we are all unique and we have something special to offer through our businesses. So what makes your business stand out from the rest?

In my opinion bringing what makes you unique to the table will separate you and help you create your niche market.

Creating a niche market is really good to do when you start out because it will help you stand out. For example, how many fashion blogs are out there? Thousands! So what would make people want to read your blog?

The key is to choose a subject and stick to it. If you love sneakers then start a sneaker blog. If you like sunglasses start a blog about them. Your blog will stand out because you are an expert in your field. Your personality and what makes you unique will shine because you specialise in something and people will notice.

When I am looking for something specific, for example a wedding photographer, I will go and find a specialist in wedding photography because I know that they would be committed and offer a great service. I would avoid hiring a general photographer to shoot my wedding because they are not going to offer me the same level of service as a specialist in wedding photography would. After you've established yourself as a business it's a great idea to branch out and have fun with the other things you want to do.

There’s a way bigger chance people will notice what you’re doing when you focus in on one subject and become an expert in that area.

These are just some points that will make your brand stand out when you start out.

I'm constantly learning and I try surround myself with people who know more than me.
